{"id":38624,"date":"2021-04-22T00:31:22","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T13:31:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=38624"},"modified":"2021-04-22T00:31:22","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T13:31:22","slug":"power-and-roos-play-out-a-thriller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/power-and-roos-play-out-a-thriller\/","title":{"rendered":"Power and Roos play out a thriller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANGLESEA and Newcomb played out a thriller in their Round 3 BFL seniors match, with only two points separating the sides at the final margin.<\/p>\n<p>The Power hosted the Roos on Saturday afternoon and had the better of the match early on, with straight kicking giving them a two-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides traded goals in the second quarter, and Newcomb held a 13-point advantage into the long break at Newcomb Sand and Soil Oval.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-51225 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/Untitled-design-14-2-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The score kept growing for both sides in the third quarter but the visitors drew closer, narrowing the margin to just five points at the final change.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomb added four more goals to their total but it was not enough to stop the Roos, who scored 5.1 of their own to over-run Anglesea.<\/p>\n<p>The Power&#8217;s Andrew Steele kicked five majors to take his season tally to 17 after only three rounds and second on the goalkicking leaderboard behind only Torquay\u2019s Lucas Anderson, who has an even 20.<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea\u2019s Jordan Erskine kicked seven goals of his own to leapfrog into third spot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-51226 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/Untitled-design-15-2-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the other Round 3 BFL games, Modewarre finished six goals clear of Ocean Grove, Torquay led all day against Drysdale and won by 35 points, Geelong Amateur pulled away after an even first quarter to give Portarlington an 87-point hiding, and Barwon Heads had a 41-point win over Queenscliff.<\/p>\n<p>The final six games of Round 1 in the GFL were also played on Saturday, following the two season-opening matches on April 10.<\/p>\n<p>Colac, South Barwon and St Marys had big wins against St Joseph\u2019s, North Shore and St Albans, respectively; and Leopold fell two points short of snatching a comeback win against Newtown &amp; Chilwell.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANGLESEA and Newcomb played out a thriller in their Round 3 BFL seniors match, with only two points separating the sides at the final margin.
