<\/p>\nLOCAL author Sally Learey has captured the essence of Geelong\u2019s culture and community in a delightful new children\u2019s picture book.<\/p>\n
Corio Bay Quest is Ms Learey\u2019s second Geelong picture book and features the same fictional family from her first Geelong title Corio Bay Kingdom.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter I wrote the first book, I realised there was a whole lot more I wanted to say,\u201d Ms Learey says.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe family that I wrote about in Corio Bay Kingdom were so well loved that I decided that they would feature in this story too.\u201d<\/p>\n
The book is not a sequel but Ms Learey says that anyone who\u2019s read Corio Bay Kingdom will recognise the characters.<\/p>\n
After the first book, Ms Learey says a lot of people who manage attractions around Geelong said \u201cwhy aren\u2019t we in your book?\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Learey then drafted the second book in 2009 but filed it away in her cabinet for a later date.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt it was opportune a few months ago to get this book out there and to bring a bit of joy to people and to get people out and about and connecting with local culture and community in Geelong again,\u201d Ms Learey said.<\/p>\n

Corio Bay Quest encourages families to experience Geelong and, what\u2019s more, 90 per cent of the attractions and experiences mentioned in the book are free.<\/p>\n
The book is also filled with vibrant watercolor illustrations showcasing Geelong landmarks.<\/p>\n
The illustrations are Ms Learey\u2019s \u201cmental creation\u201d but drawn by Stuart Craven.<\/p>\n
An exhibition of the original artwork from both books is being held at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre from May 3 to 15.<\/p>\n
Corio Bay Quest will be launched at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre on May 11 from 10am-11am.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher will be speaking and registration is essential.<\/p>\n
The book is published by Sandcastle Press and available in all good bookshops.<\/p>\n
