{"id":38792,"date":"2021-05-06T01:22:43","date_gmt":"2021-05-05T14:22:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=38792"},"modified":"2021-05-19T13:22:01","modified_gmt":"2021-05-19T02:22:01","slug":"kids-have-power-to-reward-their-superheroes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/kids-have-power-to-reward-their-superheroes\/","title":{"rendered":"Kids have power to reward their superheroes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PRIMARY school students across the region now have been given the power to nominate an unsung hero in the community for a Bethany Superhero Award.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations open on Monday (May 10) and students can nominate a relative, family friend, teacher, coach or anyone in their community they admire to win a Superhero Award.<\/p>\n<p>Bethany Group CEO Grant Boyd said the awards celebrate the everyday heroes who helped to give children their best start in life.<\/p>\n<p>He said the awards provided an opportunity for kids to shine a light on the positive role models in their lives and learn about respectful relationships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bethany Superhero Awards teach children how to recognise adults in their lives who demonstrate kindness, respect, courage and resilience,\u201d Mr Boyd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the year we\u2019ve had, it\u2019s important we celebrate people who showed us how to be resilient in the face of immense challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51881\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51881\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51881\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/BatmanJackson3_52337.jpg?_t=1620174719\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51881\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jackson, aka Batman, is ready to join in the fun of a superhero dress-up day to celebrate the Bethany Superhero Awards. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To enter, children can write, draw or film a video entry that describes the person who is their superhero.<\/p>\n<p>Entries are open to students in the Greater Geelong, Surf Coast and Warrnambool regions and nominations close on Friday, May 28.<\/p>\n<p>Every child gets a certificate of participation, and children and their superheroes go in the running to win major prizes donated by businesses in Greater Geelong and Warrnambool.<\/p>\n<p>Winners will be announced at the Bethany Superhero Awards ceremony at the Geelong Regional Library and Heritage Centre on Friday, June 18.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51879\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51879\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51879\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/IMG_3435_94227.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Between May 10 and 28 primary schools are<br \/>being encouraged to host a superhero dress-up day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event will be hosted by Yorta Yorta woman Allira Potter who is a businesswoman, mindset coach and public speaker who teaches people about cultural awareness.<\/p>\n<p>Schools in Greater Geelong and Warrnambool are also invited to participate in a Superhero Day between May 10 and 28, where students can dress up as a superhero \u2013 real, cartoon or imagined.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38854\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38854\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38854\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2021\/05\/IMG_1324_38862-1024x1536-1-683x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38854\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yorta Yorta woman Allira Potter will host the awards.
