GEELONG\u2019S AFLW side are sifting through candidates to be their new senior coach, with applications closing at the weekend.<\/p>\n
The Cats are looking for a successor to Paul Hood, who announced in early May that he would step down from the role.<\/p>\n
Hood started working with Geelong\u2019s women\u2019s program in 2017 when the club first launched a VFLW team, and was named senior coach of the Cats\u2019 inaugural AFLW team, a role he held between 2019 and 2021.<\/p>\n
According to the ad the Geelong Football Club posted on Seek last week, the AFLW senior coach will be a permanent part-time, three-day-a-week appointment and report to Geelong\u2019s head of AFLW, football pathways and player development Brett Johnson.<\/p>\n
The successful applicant will have to meet a considerable list of key accountabilities, and their qualifications must include, among others, a minimum of Level 2 AFL Coaching Accreditation (with the commitment to continuing to Level 3), demonstrated coaching experience (preferably having coached their own team) with implementation of a successful game plan, previous success in a high-performance environment, and knowledge of the modern AFLW game.<\/p>\n
The AFLW Cats started strongly in their debut season, finishing sixth and making the preliminary final, but have slid down the ladder in successive seasons, placing 10th in 2020 and 13th with only one win from nine games this year.<\/p>\n
Hood first arrived at Geelong at the end of 2010 and held multiple roles including VFL men\u2019s coach, player development manager, NGA manager, VFLW coach and most recently AFLW coach.<\/p>\n
