THE Northern Aquatic and Community Hub has reached a new milestone as the City of Greater Geelong searches for experienced contractors to start the build.<\/p>\n
The $61.6 million project made headlines last month after the federal government’s infrastructure funding was allocated to the long-awaited project, with the next step now under way.<\/p>\n
Contractors can submit an expression of interest to be evaluated by the city’s Tender Evaluation Panel, which will judge each applicant on their capability, experience and skillset.<\/p>\n
Shortlisted contractors will progress to a second phase where they will need to provide a detailed tender submission.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said the launch of the EOI process was a significant milestone for the project, first proposed in 2014.<\/p>\n
“The EOI process has been fast-tracked thanks to our investment in making this project genuinely ‘shovel ready’ before full funding was confirmed,” she said.<\/p>\n
The major project earmarked for the northern suburbs is jointly funded by the three tiers of government with the city contributing over $44 million.<\/p>\n
The project, which is the city’s largest social infrastructure investment, is anticipated to deliver $111 million in preventive health benefits in its first decade.<\/p>\n
Existing plans include the construction of a 25-metre pool, hydrotherapy and learn-to-swim pool, gym and group exercise, multi-purpose community spaces, consulting suites for maternal child health and rehabilitation services.<\/p>\n
Windermere councillor Anthony Aitken was thrilled to see the project progressing after being stagnant for many years.<\/p>\n
“I can’t believe this is really happening,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The start of tender process means this $61 million investment in our north is really is going to be built.<\/p>\n
“I encourage business who think they can deliver this generational changing project to log their interest ASAP, as my community wants this project built and opened as soon as it can be.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
