{"id":40528,"date":"2021-08-05T12:26:15","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T02:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/two-covid-cases-in-victoria-added-to-six-announced-today\/"},"modified":"2021-08-05T12:26:15","modified_gmt":"2021-08-05T02:26:15","slug":"two-covid-cases-in-victoria-added-to-six-announced-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/two-covid-cases-in-victoria-added-to-six-announced-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Two COVID cases in Victoria added to six announced today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIA has recorded another two coronavirus cases on top of the six previously announced today (Thursday, August 5).<\/p>\n<p>The two new cases will be included in the numbers tomorrow (Friday, August 6).<\/p>\n<p>They are close contacts of a teacher from Al-Taqwa College and her husband, who tested positive yesterday (Wednesday, August 4) with the source of their infection unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria is racing to trace the sources of at least three coronavirus infections, with a new testing site created at Al-Taqwa.<\/p>\n<p>The state reported six new local COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to this morning, including the teacher who may have been infectious in the community for a week.<\/p>\n<p>Another man, aged in his 20s, who lives in the City of Maribyrnong, is the third mystery case.<\/p>\n<p>He works at a warehouse in Derrimut and he and his housemate are now isolating.<\/p>\n<p>The three other cases from today&#8217;s numbers are linked to the Moonee Valley testing site cluster.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley said &#8220;multiple thousands&#8221; of people needed to get tested as a result of the new cases.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We started yesterday with no cases and 24 hours later we have at least three unlinked cases, and that just goes to show that this pandemic is not over, and that the situation will continue to face is really significant and is really one of great concern to our public health team and to all Victorians.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had to make sure these three at the moment unlinked community cases are understood, and where that chains of infections may have either been acquired or downstream where their infectious period of activity may have been in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As always, throughout this pandemic, we will be guided by the public health advice and provide further updates to Victorians if and when that advice changes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For a list of exposure sites, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/coronavirus.vic.gov.au\/exposure-sites\">coronavirus.vic.gov.au\/exposure-sites<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIA has recorded another two coronavirus cases on top of the six previously announced today (Thursday, August 5).
