A VOLUNTEER group that has already raised more than a million dollars to improve health care for the Geelong region, has its sight set on funding new cardio care technology.
\nThe St John of God Geelong Hospital Auxiliary has been appealing for donations and hosting fundraisers since its inception in 1954.
\nThe auxiliary has raised money for equipment in the special care, day stay and day oncology units, helped with fitting out four rooms in the intensive care unit, enabled the provision of special needs beds, a volunteer vehicle for oncology patients and ultrasound machine for mothers and babies in maternity, and the purchase of a cancer patient transport vehicle.
\nAuxiliary president Alex Jeffrey said the group was now planning its annual spring luncheon fundraiser, with Geelong’s unofficial mayor and local footy legend Cameron Ling headlining the event as guest speaker.
\nAlex said the luncheon was among the auxiliary’s key events for the year, which raised much-needed money for equipment, upgraded technology, and other valuable support for the hospital.
\nShe said the auxiliary also relied on raffles, sales from the gift shop, and particularly donations during the uncertainty of COVID when traditional fundraising activities have not been possible.
\nHowever, the auxiliary is optimistic and has set the date for the spring luncheon for September 15 at Capri Receptions in Geelong West, with ticket sales closing on August 27, and is hopeful that restrictions will enable the event to go ahead.
\n“We have premiership-winning Geelong captain Cameron Ling who will be speaking on life, family and footy and the spring luncheon,” Alex said.
\n“This year, money raised will go towards the purchase of new cardio technology.
\n“We also encourage donations via the St John of God website.”
