A NEW snake-run bowl and street-drain area have been included in a revised plan for Waurn Ponds’ $1.6-million skatepark upgrade, and the community is encouraged to provide feedback.
\nThe first concept design for the revamped skatepark was unveiled in June, with a workshop and online survey providing opportunities for people to share their thoughts and ideas on the plan.
\nCity of Greater Geelong and design consultants have taken feedback on board during the pre-design and concept design consultations and created a revised concept plan.
\nThe council says consultations provided a greater understanding of who will be using the space, how they will be riding it, what their skill levels are, and what they would like to see so that the design suits the needs of the broader community.
\nNew plans include a new street drain area; a new snake run bowl; improved street plaza; an area identified for a future advanced bowl; a youth active recreation area for various activities; an additional shade structure and seating areas; and retains the iconic steel ramps.
\nThe city has thanked everyone \u2013 whether they skate, scoot, ride or roll \u2013 for their feedback so far and is now asking the skatepark community to have its say on the redesign, via its website, before 4pm next Wednesday, September 1.
\nResponses will be considered, detailed designs will be developed and the council hopes to start staged construction work in early 2022.
\nThe council is contributing $300,000 towards the project, which has also received $1.34 million from the state government through its Sport and Recreation Victoria Community Sport Stimulus Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
