{"id":41321,"date":"2021-09-13T04:00:31","date_gmt":"2021-09-12T18:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=41321"},"modified":"2021-09-09T14:46:40","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T04:46:40","slug":"creative-engine-grants-jumpstart-new-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/creative-engine-grants-jumpstart-new-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Engine grants jumpstart new projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Geelong Arts Centre has announced the nine creative projects set to benefit from the second round of its innovative Creative Engine grants initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The applicants will share in $86,000 of funding, consisting of cash and in-kind venue access within the arts centre\u2019s landmark Ryrie Street building.<\/p>\n<p>GAC chief executive officer and creative director, Joel McGuinness, said the funded projects spanned multiple artistic disciplines, including dance, magic, theatre and docu-film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to provide grants to a number of phenomenal local G21 artists, across a diverse array of disciplines,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take pride in being able to enable these artists with the space, guidance, and support to develop works that are unique and bold in concept.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe beauty of Geelong Arts Centre\u2019s Creative Engine grant program, is that not only will these brilliant creatives receive project-specific support, they now also join a community of likeminded artists who will undoubtedly mould and shape their project development and broader artistic practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The grants are divided into three categories \u2013 Ignition, Place to Make and Jump Start.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44743\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44743\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44743 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/09\/Elias-Jamieson-Brown_Headshot-Rattus-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elias Jamieson Brown.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ignition grant recipient, writer and director Elias Jamieson Brown, will be supported to bring to his urban thriller, Rattus, to life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super chuffed to be able to connect with a team of artists again and have the space and time to dream up a new play,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really very rare right now, for any performing arts centre to be able to offer its resources to artists like myself for our experimentation, and because of this, the Ignition grant feels particularly meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rattus is inspired by the Barwon Heads cancer cluster, and Elias plans to conduct interviews with local activists, and families whose lives have been affected by contamination.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44744\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44744\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-44744\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/09\/Bec-Goring_Headshot-Sounds-of-Olfactory-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44744\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bec Goring.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other grant recipients include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Bec Goring, Sounds of Olfactory \u2013 The themes of \u2018Mindfulness, Chaos and Affluence\u2019 will be explored by local visual and sound artists working across a range of mediums<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Perfect Pairing \u2013 An original collaboration between Attitude Dance Company and The Hot Chicken Project, by director\/choreographer Xavier McGettigan and wine expert\/presenter Laura Viva<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Roaring \u2013 A new immersive theatre experience that plunges its audience into 1920s Geelong. This project is presented by Christine Davey and Skin of Our Teeth Productions.<\/p>\n<p>Round one of GAC\u2019s Creative Engine provided over $69,000 through cash and in-kind contributions.
