{"id":42613,"date":"2021-11-05T16:45:45","date_gmt":"2021-11-05T05:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=42613"},"modified":"2021-11-05T16:45:45","modified_gmt":"2021-11-05T05:45:45","slug":"tyson-stengle-signs-cats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/tyson-stengle-signs-cats\/","title":{"rendered":"Tyson Stengle signs with the Cats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Cats have signed free agent forward Tyson Stengle to a two-year AFL contract.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old was a highly sought after free agent after a brilliant SANFL season with Woodville West Torrens Eagles.<\/p>\n<p>New Cats development coach and former Adelaide Crows team-mate Eddie Betts is already hyping up Stengle&#8217;s talents, posting a video with Stengle on the Cats&#8217; Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Get ready, Geelong &#8211; the little pocket rocket will kick some goals for you,&#8221; Betts said. &#8220;Excitement machine down at Geelong!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is rare to be able to pick up such a young player as a free agent, and we are thrilled that Tyson has decided to continue his career with Geelong,\u201d Geelong general manager of football Simon Lloyd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTyson has shown an ability to play at AFL level, and he had a very successful season in the SANFL.\u00a0We believe Tyson has the ability to have a long career at AFL level and he is a positive addition to our playing list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stengle\u00a0was a star of the SANFL this year, helping Woodville West Torrens to a premiership, kicking 44 goals in 19 games. He kicked nine goals in three finals and was named in the SANFL team of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Stengle\u00a0has spent four years in the AFL, after stints with Richmond and Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>Originally\u00a0selected in the rookie draft by the Tigers,\u00a0Stengle\u00a0debuted in 2017, kicking two goals in two games.<\/p>\n<p>Stengle\u00a0couldn\u2019t break through for further senior action in\u00a02018, and\u00a0joined his hometown Crows in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In two seasons with Adelaide, Stengle played 14 games and kicked 13 goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Cats have signed free agent forward Tyson Stengle to a two-year AFL contract.
