MESMERISING Christmas-themed projections will see the Geelong Town Hall lit up again as part of the city’s comprehensive end of year festivities.<\/p>\n
The Town Hall’s Gheringhap Street facade will soon come alive with the animated light shows from November 12 to January 7 created by local artists Alex Evans, Matt Bonner and Melbourne artist Olaf Meyer.<\/p>\n
In addition to Town Hall, Shorts Place, a brief walk from City Hall in central Geelong, will also be illuminated by festive projections nightly.<\/p>\n
Each artist will have projections on display that will run between five and seven minutes per night from 8.30pm until 11.30pm.<\/p>\n
It is recommended to experience the show from 9pm as the summer days lengthen in December.
\nOlaf Meyer’s projections explore Christmas in Australia through the perspective of his German cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
Alex Evans will explore the theme of Christmas as a time of hope and Matt Bonner will respond to the carol The 12 days of Christmas.<\/p>\n
Founder of Bonart Multimedia, Mr Bonner’s Christmas projections have been a favourite in previous years and will again provide festive projections to residents and visitors of Geelong for a fifth year.<\/p>\n
“In my previous four years I have had the Christmas projections all to myself, but this year council has decided to have a group of artists take part,” Mr Bonner said.<\/p>\n
“It’s great to collaborate because it’s good to see what others will bring to the projections and I am just grateful that I can continue to take part in this awesome program.”<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher encouraged everyone to go out and rediscover the city while enjoying the many free activities happening across the Greater Geelong region at this time of year.<\/p>\n
“We’re coming out of one of the biggest cultural and economic shocks in the last hundred years, so we want to help the community celebrate with free entertainment for the whole family to enjoy,” Cr Asher said.<\/p>\n
“The artists have delivered a colourful display that will captivate audiences. We want to give our retail and tourism sectors a boost and support increased trade at our restaurants and bars.”<\/p>\n
All three artists have previously featured in Geelong Design Week.<\/p>\n
