{"id":42720,"date":"2021-11-11T13:36:11","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T02:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/unearthing-the-trails-and-tracks-of-angleseas-hinterland\/"},"modified":"2021-11-11T13:39:49","modified_gmt":"2021-11-11T02:39:49","slug":"unearthing-the-trails-and-tracks-of-angleseas-hinterland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/unearthing-the-trails-and-tracks-of-angleseas-hinterland\/","title":{"rendered":"Unearthing the trails and tracks of Anglesea&#8217;s hinterland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SURF Coast Shire is renowned for its famous surf breaks and raw ocean environment, but, as Jake Millburn, owner of Torquay\u2019s Bike Matters says in a new backyard campaign by Explore Surf Coast, \u201csometimes you just need to look away from the ocean, look to the hills \u2013 and just explore\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Eumeralla Flora Reserve between Torquay and Anglesea, part of the Great Otway National Park, has several of Jake\u2019s favourite bike tracks and trails criss-crossing the landscape, with the Anglesea Bike Park a meeting point to practise tricks and build skills while meeting other like-minded bike enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much varied terrain in the region \u2013 people don\u2019t know what they are missing out on if they haven\u2019t explored it,\u201d Jake said. \u201cThere\u2019s also so much support in the bike community from guided rides to groups. Cycling is a great family activity and we love bike riding in the Surf Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hugging the coastline are also trails perfect for running with spectacular views, wildlife and nature to get lost in. Torquay\u2019s Happy Runner shop is a hub for trail runners, with groups heading out together to explore, keep fit and make friends.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60777\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60777\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60777 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/51A8730_91017-600x380.jpg?_t=1636597732\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60777\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Explore the Surf Coast by taking part in the shire&#8217;s many running events like triathlete Adam Conquest.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are also many running events across the shire to put all the training to good use, such as the 100km Surf Coast Century, Afterglow Twilight Trail Runs, Wonderfalls Trail Run, Lorne Mountain to Surf and The Surf Coast Trail Marathon, as well as a trail running series of events in Anglesea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Surf Coast Shire is a beautiful setting to get in touch with what we need physically, as well as mentally,\u201d champion triathlete Adam Conquest, who was filmed for the series at his favourite Point Addis run, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a great running community \u2013 get down here and out in nature \u2013 you won\u2019t regret it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If riding and running don\u2019t appeal, there are slower ways to enjoy the beautiful Anglesea hinterland by bushwalking to discover hidden trails and world-renowned orchid displays, a drawcard for nature lovers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60778\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60778\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60778 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/51A7957_53457-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1636597733\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60778\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sally White, President of Angair, is encouraging people to enjoy the beautiful Anglesea hinterland by bushwalking.
