{"id":42905,"date":"2021-11-25T04:30:54","date_gmt":"2021-11-24T17:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=42905"},"modified":"2021-11-24T11:31:43","modified_gmt":"2021-11-24T00:31:43","slug":"everyone-welcome-to-newtown-garden-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/everyone-welcome-to-newtown-garden-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyone welcome to Newtown garden fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE courtyard at the rear of a Newtown residence will offer itself as an Open Garden this Sunday in the hope of raising $10,000 to go towards the Andrew Love Cancer Centre in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>The property at 57 Austin Street, Newtown will open its doors in partnership with the Barwon Health Foundation for a nature-filled day of perusing in author Jennifer Kloester\u2019s garden.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 720px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/IMG_1896_10391.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flowers of all colours line the garden.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The residence is often referred to as \u201cThe Old Manse\u201d because of the fact it used to be the former residence of a local church minister and features a wide array of flora from flowers to shrubs.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Kloester, who herself was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and beat the disease early on, bought the newly refurbished Newtown residence back in 1993 and will coordinate this year\u2019s fundraiser for a second time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 721px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/IMG_1908_10657.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"721\" height=\"481\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The residence&#8217;s &#8220;Garden Room&#8221; provides an intimate setting for visitors.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first Open Garden Fundraiser held in 2017 was considered a \u201csmall affair\u201d according to Ms Kloester with only neighbours, close friends, and families in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The event four years ago raised $3,500, but this year\u2019s fundraiser holds bigger aspirations with all funds to be directed towards an institution close to Ms Kloester\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a number of friends who have been through the Andrew Love Centre, and all are doing well thank goodness,\u201d Ms Kloester said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think everyone in the Geelong and Surf Coast region knows of the Andrew Love Centre because they either know someone who has been in there or have been there themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe treatment there is exceptionally good, it\u2019s a really fantastic institute, everyone talks about how caring they are, and I think it\u2019s so important to give back as much as you can.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 708px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/IMG_1919_03549.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"708\" height=\"472\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A view of the courtyard from 57 Austin Street&#8217;s balcony extension with the rest of Newtown in the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Barwon Health Foundation executive director Zoe Waters said the foundation was thrilled to have the support of this amazing community event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is so great to see the community start to hold events again and support the services of Barwon Health,\u201d Ms Waters said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so grateful to Jen, her friends Rose and Cynthia for their efforts in supporting the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 683px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/IMG_1854_55754.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"455\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Many flowers will be on display this Sunday including Ms Kloester&#8217;s Gallipoli Roses, which were especially grown for the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC&#8217;s beach landing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The garden will open this Sunday at 9am and will remain open to the public until 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>To enter the garden is $10 per person with children under 12 years of age allowed to enter for free.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a silent auction, a garden calendar, vases and plants up for sale with every cent donated going directly to the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.<\/p>\n<p>To get a sneak peek of Ms Kloester\u2019s garden head to @opengardenattheoldmanse on Instagram.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE courtyard at the rear of a Newtown residence will offer itself as an Open Garden this Sunday in the hope of raising $10,000 to go towards the Andrew Love Cancer Centre in Geelong.
