{"id":43068,"date":"2021-12-02T01:25:52","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T14:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=43068"},"modified":"2021-12-02T10:08:39","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T23:08:39","slug":"plans-underway-for-annual-swim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/plans-underway-for-annual-swim\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans underway for annual swim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WRECK2REEF organisers are determined to make this summer\u2019s annual open water swim a success after the popular event at Indented Head was cancelled earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Wreck2Reef, Indented Head Yacht Club\u2019s largest annual fundraiser, did not go ahead in mid-February as planned after Victoria was plunged into a five day statewide lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>Wreck2Reef race director Andrew Dix, the Indented Head Yacht Club treasurer, said plans were well underway for the swim to take place on Saturday, February 12.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_61597\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61597\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-61597 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Wreck2ReefRaceDir_34792-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1638250106\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-61597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wreck2Reef race director Andrew Dix.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are certainly planning on holding our event swim this summer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dix conceded the cancellation of last summer\u2019s event was a \u2018major blow\u2019 financially for the Indented Head Yacht Club and local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a major blow because it is our major fundraiser, as it normally enables us to fund the junior sailing program with boats and support craft and motor boats and all that sort of stuff to help us run that sort of program,\u201d Mr Dix said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty gutting for everybody involved for us as a club, but also for all the people that were going to come down and swim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is amazing how popular the swim is and it is great to see a lot of swims are coming back this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_61598\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61598\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-61598 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Registrationsarenow_77552-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1638250153\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-61598\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Registrations are now open for this summer&#8217;s 2022 Wreck2Reef on Saturday, February 12. Photo: MARK HEENAN MEDIA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Wreck2Reef will be one of eight open water swims to make up the prestigious Cousins Great Victorian Swim Series (GVSS) this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Other GVSS event swims include the Point Leo Swim Classic, Rip View Swim Classic at Point Lonsdale, Danger 1000 at Torquay, Mornington Twilight, MMAD Australia Day Swim, Brighton and Cerberus\/Half Moon Bay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCousins were going to be part of last summer but we didn\u2019t have an event \u2013 so it will be the first year we have run an event as part of the Cousins Great Victorian Series,\u201d Mr Dix said.<\/p>\n<p>To register for the 2022 Wreck2Reef 1.2km and 2.5km open water swims log onto https:\/\/ihyc.com.au\/wreck-2-reef-event for more information.<\/p>\n<p>All competitors must pre-register \u2013 no on the day registrations will be accepted with competitor numbers capped at 500.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WRECK2REEF organisers are determined to make this summer\u2019s annual open water swim a success after the popular event at Indented Head was cancelled earlier this year.
