GEELONGPORT will expand its operations to include green hydrogen, announcing it will invest $100 million to build the Geelong Hydrogen Hub.<\/p>\n
The port is partnering with international company CAC-H2 to build the green hydrogen production and distribution facility.<\/p>\n
Generated using renewable energy, green hydrogen has much lower carbon emissions than hydrogen made using methane or coal.<\/p>\n
Green hydrogen is being positioned as an alternative fuel source for Victorian households, businesses and industries and to help reduce Victoria\u2019s reliance on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n
Development of the Geelong Hydrogen Hub will also include the ability to produce green ammonia for export into Asia to meet the growing demand in the region.<\/p>\n
GeelongPort chief executive officer Brett Winter said he was pleased to announce this positive step forward for the Geelong region and Australia\u2019s climate change approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Geelong Hydrogen Hub will position Geelong as a leader in the development of clean energy infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n
CAC-H2 chief executive officer Glenn Davies said his company was excited to be working with GeelongPort and to be the first to join the Geelong Hydrogen Hub.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt CAC-H2, we are working hard to achieve net-zero emissions through the development of green hydrogen and renewable energy assets and look forward to bringing clean energy infrastructure to Geelong and Victorian communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pending regulatory approvals, the first stage of the Geelong Hydrogen Hub is expected to be operational in December 2023, creating more than 50 jobs during its construction and establishing many more direct and indirect clean energy jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a landmark deal to partner with a world-class facility such as GeelongPort whilst supporting Victoria\u2019s path to net zero,\u201d CAC-H2 director Arman Massoumi said.<\/p>\n
GeelongPort has also partnered with Startupbootcamp\u2019s Greater Geelong Hydrogen Technology cluster and is engaging with interested parties to identify future partnership opportunities in developing the Geelong Hydrogen Hub at the port.<\/p>\n
Corio federal member Richard Marles congratulated GeelongPort on the partnership.<\/p>\n
