CAMP Quality\u2019s Geelong Convoy will return to the city this Sunday, February 27, to bring the community together over a love of trucks and a desire to help children facing cancer.<\/p>\n
The event will see more than 100 trucks and motorbikes depart from Avalon Raceway together and travel a route of 50km around the Geelong area before returning to Avalon Raceway at 10.30am, where the fun continues with a Show and Shine Day, including children\u2019s entertainment and food.<\/p>\n
Participants in the convoy are fundraising for Camp Quality with a goal to raise more than $75,000 for children and families facing cancer.<\/p>\n
The \u201cFor Bella\u201d team are giving the Convoy everything they can after Bella Allen, a family friend, passed away from cancer a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n
The team includes Natasha, her daughter Shantelle and partner Lane, who are entering two trucks in the Convoy and have raised over $16,000 and counting, all in honour of Bella.<\/p>\n
Bella had been fighting leakaemia for nearly seven years, and passed away in late January this year at the age of 13.<\/p>\n
\u201cShantelle and Lane were planning on doing the Convoy anyway, but when they heard that Bella passed away, they just took it to the next level and wanted to do everything they can to raise funds for Camp Quality,\u201d Natasha said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we followed Bella\u2019s fight against cancer over the years we were incredibly inspired by her strength and touched by her story.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year, there is a fundraising challenge – with an overall target of at least $75,000 – for all involved to determine the lead truck and pole positions for the Geelong Convoy. All the funds raised in the lead up to, on the day of and after the convoy will support Aussie children who are facing the daily ups and downs of cancer.<\/p>\n
Camp Quality gives children facing cancer the chance to be children again.<\/p>\n
Their services and programs are created specifically to support children aged up to the age of 15, who are dealing with their own cancer diagnosis, or the diagnosis of someone they love, such as a brother, sister, mum, dad or carer.<\/p>\n
The not-for-profit organisation provides children, their siblings and parents with a break from cancer through fun experiences, education, specialised cancer care, counselling and a supportive community; in-hospital, online, at school and away from it all on camps and at retreats.<\/p>\n
Camp Quality\u2019s free services and programs help the 8,900 children registered for services and programs at every stage of the cancer experience,<\/p>\n
The organisation relies almost entirely on the generosity of everyday Australians, major donors, corporate partners, trusts and foundations to help them provide our services and programs free of charge.<\/p>\n
