{"id":45001,"date":"2022-03-10T14:45:36","date_gmt":"2022-03-10T03:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/design-celebration-set-to-delight\/"},"modified":"2022-03-04T14:57:37","modified_gmt":"2022-03-04T03:57:37","slug":"design-celebration-set-to-delight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/design-celebration-set-to-delight\/","title":{"rendered":"Design celebration set to delight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BUILDING on the success of last year\u2019s inaugural event, and in celebration of Geelong\u2019s status as Australia\u2019s only designated UNESCO City of Design, this year\u2019s Geelong Design Week is back.<\/p>\n<p>Running from March 17 to 27 with an official launch event on Thursday, March 17, the 2022 Geelong Design Week is destined to delight.<\/p>\n<p>With 60 events running across the 10-day period, Geelong and Surf Coast locals have the opportunity to experience and engage in a full program of incredible themed events, via this internationally recognised celebration of design \u2013 right on their doorsteps.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is taur meaning \u2018belonging\u2019 in the local Wadawurrung language, the Traditional Owners of Djilang (Geelong).<\/p>\n<p>Indigenous artist Deanne Gilson\u2019s commissioned work, Yalik Beek Murrup (water, country, spirit), provides the strong visual narrative that underpins Geelong Design Week.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65699\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65699\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65699\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/EVENT53PLOTHou_96056-1-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"415\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This year&#8217;s program will feature everything from architectural and garden walking tours to panel discussions<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The concept of contemporary design thinking creates a conversation about the way that we live on the planet, how we use design in our everyday lives, rather than being a static discussion about the design of \u2018things\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s program will feature everything from architectural and garden walking tours to panel discussions about creative urban design, to dance and movement workshops, exhibitions, fashion, crafts, educational and VR experiences, to scientific displays and engaging talks.<\/p>\n<p>With all events organised under eight key themes, there really is something for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the week, singer, actress and storyteller Clare Bowditch will be gracing the stage of the refurbished The Palais in Moorabool Street, Geelong with an event titled: Big Dreams, Creative Resilience and the Stories We Tell Ourselves: An Evening With Clare Bowditch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65701\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65701\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65701 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Clare-Bowditch-p_jp_63848-1-e1646365933280-1016x1024.jpg?_t=1646365935\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"645\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kicking off the week is singer, actress and storyteller Clare Bowditch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Destined to be creative, reflective and delightful, there are limited tickets available for the event at a cost of $35 plus booking fee which includes refreshment on arrival.
