GEELONG Regional Libraries is helping green the region by allowing members to \u2018borrow\u2019 up to three packets of seeds to plant at home.<\/p>\n
The Seed Library is a community-based swap system that provides free flowers, herbs and vegetables seeds from participating libraries including Bannockburn, Colac, Drysdale, Newcomb, Torquay and Waurn Ponds.<\/p>\n
There will also be a roving Seed Library box on the Golden Plains Mobile Library through to the end of March.<\/p>\n
Seed recipients are encouraged to take the seeds home and once they reached maturity, collect the seeds and donate them back to the library.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Seed Library was created to help foster community connections and enhance wellbeing especially after the challenges so many people faced during multiple lockdowns,\u201d chair of the Geelong Regional Library Corporation Board, councillor Ron Nelson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project also acknowledges the role gardening can play in wellbeing and aims to encourage people to grow their own food,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The library is offering complimentary gardening information, events and workshops via its website: www.grlc.vic.gov.au\/seed-library.<\/p>\n
There will also be a \u2018Veggie Gardening for Beginners\u2019 online workshop on Friday, March 18, from 10am to 11am.<\/p>\n
