GEELONG landmarks will illuminate with bright visual art projections for a one-night special event in October.<\/p>\n
White Night will return to Geelong in 2022, the state government announced last week, with the event to illuminate the city in celebration of its reputation for design and music scene.<\/p>\n
The public art show features projections, installations, performances, exhibitions and live street performances as part of the celebration.<\/p>\n
Large-scale installation art creator Joseph O’Farrell will direct the program, which this year is themed ‘everything on the land is reflected in the sky’.<\/p>\n
The government said it expects the night to bring tens of thousands of Geelong residents and tourists to the city centre and pump millions into local businesses.<\/p>\n
White Night Geelong’s debut in 2018 attracted 70,000 locals and visitors to local streets and provided a $6.1 million economic lift. A planned return last year was scuppered due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
Local state government MPs said they looked forward to boosts from Geelong’s 2022 White Night on October 8.<\/p>\n
“This will be a fantastic night, attracting thousands of visitors and giving us the chance to showcase Geelong as a major events destination,” Geelong MP Christine Couzens said.<\/p>\n
“White Night will bring the best local and international creative experiences to Geelong and transform our beautiful outdoor spaces,” South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
