WATER Minister Lisa Neville visited Geelong this week to open a suite of recently completed Barwon River access facilities.<\/p>\n
Ms Neville visited South Geelong for the Wal Whiteside Multi-Use Platform and a landing extension at South Geelong’s rowing precinct, and Newtown to view the new Yollinko Wetland Walk and Multi-Use Platform and Marnock Vale launching facilities on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The works, all finished in the past 18 months, were worth $726,000 with joint investment from the state government ($570,000), Corangamite Catchment Management Authority ($30,000), the Victorian Fisheries Authority ($50,000) and City of Greater Geelong ($76,000).<\/p>\n
New platforms aim to provide better access to recreational activities including rowing, fishing and boating at strategic locations along the river.<\/p>\n
“The Barwon River is a much-loved piece of the Geelong community and the new access ramps will encourage more people to get out enjoy our beautiful waterways,” Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
“These upgrades will complement our Barwon River Action Plan, which will ensure this iconic waterway stays healthy for future generations to enjoy.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
