{"id":45488,"date":"2022-04-05T04:00:51","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T18:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=45488"},"modified":"2022-03-29T15:44:15","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T04:44:15","slug":"joeys-alumni-chip-in-for-a-successful-golf-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/joeys-alumni-chip-in-for-a-successful-golf-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Joeys alumni chip in for a successful golf fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ST JOSEPH\u2019S College alumni have pulled together to fundraise more than $30,000 at an annual Golf Day with funds going towards the school\u2019s Bursary program.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 27th year, the Associated Cold Tread Tyres St Joseph\u2019s Golf Day at Lonsdale Links Golf Course was a big success with 290 former college students arriving at the course in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 671px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IMG_5835_43750.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"671\" height=\"503\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Lonsdale Links were lined with St Joey&#8217;s logos.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Consisting of an AM and PM playing group, avid golfers chipped the day away and helped raise $31,000, all of which will fund books, uniforms and fee assistance for Bursary program students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 666px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IMG_6853_44305.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"666\" height=\"444\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A total of 290 players formed the two playing groups on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alumni and philanthropy manager Cameron Ling said the day was a wonderful opportunity for former students, friends and the wider Geelong community to get together and support the fundraising event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was more than happy to stay back and keep things organised for the boss of our community department at St Joseph\u2019s and not be exposed for the horrible golfer that I am,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s funny just how competitive people get when they think they have a chance to win on the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a group arrive called The Class of 2015, so it\u2019s great to see younger players are also seeing the day as a chance to catch up with old peers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school congratulated its AM winners IDAWS, consisting of Felice Male, Michael Noonan, John Bantow and Chad Rivett, as Balls Up finished runners-up with Andrew Green, Greg Smith, Gav Devola, Col Gillet, and Nathan Clarke.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 668px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IMG_6813_31413.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"668\" height=\"446\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New generations of ex-students make their way out to the Golf Day each year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s weather held out well for the PM group which played to the strengths of team Kieser; Brodie Leishman, Tony Speed, Ned Arundel, Sarah Reid, and Martin Reid who earnt the bragging rights for the PM session.<\/p>\n<p>The Paatsch five made up of Will Paatsch, Ned Harris, Mitch Diamond, Nick Egan, and Braden Hocking followed behind.<\/p>\n<p>The golf day was a joint initiative of St Joseph\u2019s College and its Old Collegians Association.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST JOSEPH\u2019S College alumni have pulled together to fundraise more than $30,000 at an annual Golf Day with funds going towards the school\u2019s Bursary program.
