SOUTH Barwon Labor MP Darren Cheeseman is again petitioning his own government, this time to build a primary school in Charlemont.<\/p>\n
Mr Cheeseman said he acknowledged the importance of having local services, community facilities and schools close at hand in a growing community with many young families.<\/p>\n
Charlemont is part of the Armstrong Creek Growth Corridor, which is one of regional Australia\u2019s fastest growing regions, with many thousands of new residents moving there in the past few years.<\/p>\n
Last week, Mr Cheeseman launched a petition advocating for a new Charlemont Primary School to be considered in the coming 2022\/23 State Budget.<\/p>\n
This school would service Charlemont and nearby communities, providing education services nestled in their neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
The State Budget is scheduled to be gazetted on May 3.<\/p>\n
Previous State Budgets in recent years have included funding for local school upgrades, and new schools such as Mirripoa Primary, Iona College, Oberon High School and Armstrong Creek School to service the growing communities of Armstrong Creek, Charlemont and Mount Duneed.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a father of two young boys myself, I know how important it is for essential services to be close at hand,\u201d Mr Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to prepare for the future, and that is why I am advocating for a new primary school to be delivered in Charlemont.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am advocating for a new Primary School in Charlemont to service this growing community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you support a new school in this community, please sign my petition calling for this much-needed facility to be considered in the upcoming State Budget.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Cheeseman’s previous petitions include lobbying the Victorian and federal governments to fund the $18.48 million Armstrong Creek Town Centre Library and Community Hub.<\/p>\n
