{"id":47338,"date":"2022-05-07T04:30:19","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T18:30:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=47338"},"modified":"2022-05-04T11:40:17","modified_gmt":"2022-05-04T01:40:17","slug":"26000-raised-at-parkinsons-walk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/26000-raised-at-parkinsons-walk\/","title":{"rendered":"$26,000 raised at Parkinson&#8217;s walk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RESIDENTS from across the region directly and indirectly affected by Parkinson\u2019s disease finally got the chance to gather in unity last Sunday after two straight cancellations of the Walk in the Park Geelong fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Families and individuals affected by the progressive neurological disease gathered at Geelong\u2019s Eastern Park for the first walking fundraiser in three years, raising $26,000 for Melbourne-based research information organisation Fight Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 652px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/IMG_1218_73551.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"652\" height=\"435\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Zajac family from Wallington\/Leopold walking with Paul (centre).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Walk in the Park Geelong organiser Kirsten George, who walked for her father on Sunday, said it was amazing to see a tremendous turnout from the Geelong community in what is an emotional day for so many.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great to see so many people get around this year\u2019s event,\u201d Ms George said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve just had so much support for the event this year and our main sponsor Homestyle Aged Care has been amazing because they helped get the day up and running.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of them every single dollar we raised through donations and registrations will go straight to Fight Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was good to be back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 667px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/IMG_1213_40644.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"445\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Walk in the Park Geelong helper Riley Fatone.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Walk in the Park\u2019s special ambassador MP John Eren played a pivotal role on the day telling his story of living with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s representative for Lara was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s almost three years ago and now educates residents in the region about his illness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day was fantastic, a great effort,\u201d Mr Eren said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank Kirsten obviously and the entire Geelong community for their support.
