{"id":50805,"date":"2022-06-26T04:30:02","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T18:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=50805"},"modified":"2022-06-22T15:17:12","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T05:17:12","slug":"new-accommodation-opened-for-marcus-oldham-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/new-accommodation-opened-for-marcus-oldham-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New accommodation opened for Marcus Oldham students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STUDENTS at Marcus Oldham College are sleeping easy in their new accommodation supported by the state government.<\/p>\n<p>The new 30-bedroom facility received $2.5 million from the Agricultural College Modernisation Program and is the first project to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>The program helps agriculture colleges and other training providers to upgrade the programs and facilities they need to educate Victoria\u2019s future farmers and agriculture professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Oldham is a non-profit college offering higher education qualifications in agriculture, agribusiness, and equine management at Diploma through to Masters level.<\/p>\n<p>This project has increased on-campus accommodation to 153 beds, enabling more students to get access to education and enhance their<br \/>\nagricultural knowledge.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72109\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72109\" style=\"width: 830px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72109 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/MarcusOldhamCollege_10028.jpg?_t=1655770217\" alt=\"\" width=\"830\" height=\"467\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This project has increased on-campus accommodation at the college to 153 beds.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Landscaping is nearly complete but the first students have already moved into their new rooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiving on campus is essential to produce great graduates and thanks to the Victorian Government more students can engage in the full Marcus Oldham educational experience,\u201d Marcus Oldham College principal Andrew Baker said.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Agriculture Mary-Anne Thomas visited the college campus in Waurn Ponds last week to officially open the facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new accommodation is going to make a huge difference to Victoria\u2019s next generation of farmers and industry professionals,\u201d Ms Thomas said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program will enhance education and career pathways for young people in agriculture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The $50 million Agricultural College Modernisation Program has also allocated $20 million to upgrade facilities at Longerenong College and the University of Melbourne\u2019s Dookie campus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72111\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72111\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-72111\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/MarcusOldhamCollege_75950.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"787\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Minister for Agriculture Mary-Anne Thomas with Marcus Oldham College Diana Wheaton and William Jackson in the new accommodation at the college.
