GRACE Tame is the headliner for the first in a new series from the Give Where You Live Foundation to encourage conversations on issues that matter to our community.<\/p>\n

The Australian of the Year will speak at GMHBA Stadium early next month in the inaugural Conversations That Matter event.<\/p>\n

Give Where You Live Foundation chief executive officer Bill Mithen said the Foundation was excited to launch Conversations That Matter and to have Grace Tame as the first speaker.<\/p>\n

“Over the past 18 months we’ve seen the formidable force that is Grace Tame, truly challenge and inspire change in our society.<\/p>\n

“She has started so many conversations that matter across our country, and that’s why we are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Geelong.<\/p>\n

“We’ve watched in awe as Grace has rallied the support of a nation and advocated around issues of consent, power and equity.<\/p>\n

“I, for one, am incredibly excited to listen and learn from Grace when she comes to Geelong.”<\/p>\n

The Give Where You Live Foundation says change occurs when people have a voice, and Conversations That Matter is part of the foundation’s commitment to raising issues that can be difficult to talk about, giving people a voice and creating positive change.<\/p>\n

“There are so many challenges in our community that are more complex than people think, or more common than people are aware,” Mr Mithen said.<\/p>\n

“Conversations That Matter aims to bring to light the realities facing everyday people across our region.”<\/p>\n

The August 3 event will be hosted by writer Nelly Thomas and feature a performance of “No Means No” by Give Where You Live community partner Somebody’s Daughter Theatre
\nCompany.<\/p>\n

The company recently received a grant to fund the creation of a short film and will perform the song “No Means No”, which addresses the issue of consent.<\/p>\n

The event is being presented with support from sponsors GeelongPort, WorkSafe Victoria, and Ramsey Property Group.<\/p>\n
