Mr Cheeseman said he “can’t wait” to see the project’s benefits, while federal Corangamite MP Libby Coker said the project was vital to boosting tourism and jobs on the Bellarine.<\/p>\n
The new bridge will remove a level crossing at Barwon Heads Road as part of its $365-million first stage upgrade that will duplicate the road to Reserve Road, Charlemont, and is due to finish by late-2023.<\/p>\n
“We are ensuring the road and rail network meets the needs of the growing community, through projects including the Barwon Heads Road upgrade, and the recently opened Waurn Ponds Station upgrade,” Ms Allen said.<\/p>\n
“Geelong is experiencing the largest population growth in regional Victoria, with the Armstrong Creek urban growth area expected to provide up to 65,000 homes over the next 10 to 25 years alone.”<\/p>\n
Vehicles once again have free passage on Barwon Heads Road at Belmont after finishing an intensive earthworks period.<\/p>\n
Authorities had closed the road southbound from Settlement Road to Breakwater Road for works, but the lane reopened to traffic earlier last week.<\/p>\n
