{"id":54982,"date":"2022-07-30T00:01:08","date_gmt":"2022-07-29T14:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=54982"},"modified":"2022-07-30T16:56:32","modified_gmt":"2022-07-30T06:56:32","slug":"cadels-race-locked-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/cadels-race-locked-in-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Cadel&#8217;s race locked in for next three years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (CEGORR) will be back on the roads of Geelong and the Surf Coast not only in 2023 but for also the two following years, with the state government backing the event until 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the highest possible sanctioning from the world governing body Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the Elite Men\u2019s Race and Elite Women\u2019s Road Race have been confirmed today (Saturday, July 30) as WorldTour events for the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>The four-day CEGORR festival, which was called off due to COVID-19 in 2021 and this year, will return on January 26-29, 2023 and will also feature curtain-raiser event the Race Torquay criterium as well as other events for the public to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Cyclists of all ages can ride on the same course &#8211; which has previously passed through Geelong, Barwon Heads, Torquay and Moriac &#8211; as their elite cycling heroes through the popular People\u2019s Ride and Family Ride.<\/p>\n<p>Since the inaugural event in 2015, which marked Cadel Evans\u2019 final professional race, it has been broadcast in more than 140 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The last staging of the event in 2020 attracted more than 120,000 fans with 57 per cent of attendees travelling from outside the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so excited that the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race will be back in January 2023,&#8221; Evans said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t wait to welcome the world&#8217;s elite cyclists and thousands of visitors back to my hometown.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75041\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75041\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75041\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/Untitled-design-4-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75041\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The one-day Race Torquay criterium will return in 2023.
