GEELONG council is seeking experienced artists or creators to take over the city’s curated projection program.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong will continue lighting up local landmarks for special occasions as part of its public art program and is assembling a team to deliver the works.<\/p>\n
Buildings such as City Hall, Barwon Water Headquarters and Shorts Place are illuminated with art projections for event such as Christmas, Anzac Day and Reconciliation Week.<\/p>\n
COGG’s projection art program has expanded steadily since the first display for Christmas in 2014.<\/p>\n
“The projections have become highly anticipated events on the City’s calendar, so we want to keep building on the strengths, popularity and successes of the program to date,” Mayor Peter Murrihy said.<\/p>\n
“Everyone looks forward to the return of the Christmas Festival to Geelong and we’re thrilled to help families enjoy free entertainment at this special time of year.”<\/p>\n
The city’s creative communities and culture chair Trent Sullivan said the program also boosted local business and tourism as well as the arts community.<\/p>\n
“The free projection program helps to make sure that everyone can participate in Geelong’s cultural life,” Cr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
“The projections give our retail and tourism sectors a boost and support increased trade at our restaurants and bars.”<\/p>\n
COGG said it is seeking artists to create “work with a high level of artistic integrity, featuring high quality creative contemporary art with a strong visual narrative” for the large-format projections.<\/p>\n
