{"id":56190,"date":"2022-08-29T21:38:30","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T11:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=56190"},"modified":"2022-08-29T21:38:30","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T11:38:30","slug":"doyle-tops-count-in-geelong-best-and-fairest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/doyle-tops-count-in-geelong-best-and-fairest\/","title":{"rendered":"Doyle tops count in Geelong best-and-fairest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">THE GEELONG Netball League\u2019s best-and-fairest is a sharpshooting Swan in 2022 with South Barwon shooter Ellen Doyle taking out the A Grade medal at tonight\u2019s GFNL Awards Night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">Doyle, whose 892 goals led the competition in scoring by a whopping 195 goals, tallied 22 votes on the night and edged out St Joseph\u2019s attacker Emma Buwalda by two votes to become the first Swan since Sascha Veldhuis attained the honour in 2003.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Doyle struck the count early with two votes in South Barwon\u2019s Round 1 contest against Grovedale but would not poll again until her best-on-court performance against St Mary\u2019s in Round 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Doyle added to her votes tally in Rounds 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 15 and once more with three votes in Round 18 to put the count beyond reach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">Buwalda, a fellow Geelong Cougars teammate, polled two votes in Round 19, but only to minimise the final margin to two, finishing the night with 20.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Fellow Joey Elli Leydin secured a third-place finish with 17 votes, while Colac Tiger Brooke Allan and Newtown &amp; Chilwell\u2019s Danielle Mather rounded out the top five with each notching up 16 votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Doyle led the Swans to a third-seeded finish in the season but assisted in putting up the highest-ranked offences in the competition with 1067 goals across the entire frontcourt (ranked second in the league).<\/p>\n<p>St Joseph&#8217;s Laura Bell was named B Grade best-and-fairest, Geelong West&#8217;s Holly Fenton attained the C Grade honour, Newtown &amp; Chilwell&#8217;s Cassidy Moore and South Barwon&#8217;s Nneka Ononye shared the D Grade award, and Newtown &amp; Chilwell&#8217;s Myah Linton acquired the top gong in E Grade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">The top 10 vote-getters in the Geelong Netball League:<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">1 Ellen Doyle (South Barwon) \u2013 22 votes<br \/>\n2 Emma Buwalda (St Joseph\u2019s) \u2013 20 votes<br \/>\n3 Elli Leydin (St Joseph\u2019s) \u2013 17 votes<br \/>\n4 Brooke Allan (Colac) \u2013 16 votes<br \/>\n5 Danielle Mather (Newtown &amp; Chilwell) \u2013 16 votes<br \/>\n6 Madelyn Gray (St Albans) \u2013 14 votes<br \/>\n7 Uneeq Palavi (Newtown &amp; Chilwell) \u2013 14 votes<br \/>\n8 Alahria Smith (Geelong West) \u2013 13 votes<br \/>\n9 Jessie Lang (Colac) \u2013 13 votes<br \/>\n10 Michelle Svetnik (South Barwon) \u2013 13 votes<\/p>\n<p>The Geelong Netball League Team of the Season was also named, led by Newtown and Chilwell coach Jason Woolley:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Goalers: <strong>Julia Woolley<\/strong> (Newtown &amp; Chilwell), <strong>Zanna Woods<\/strong> (Newtown &amp; Chilwell), <strong>Ellen Doyle<\/strong> (South Barwon)<\/li>\n<li>Mid Court: <strong>Elli Leydin<\/strong> (St Joseph&#8217;s), <strong>Zara Walters<\/strong> (Colac), <strong>Ally O&#8217;Connor<\/strong> (Bell Park), <strong>Vanessa Augustini<\/strong> (Newtown &amp; Chilwell)<\/li>\n<li>Defenders:\u00a0<strong>Tori Honner<\/strong> (St Joseph&#8217;s), <strong>Brooke Allan<\/strong> (Colac)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Indya Forde<\/strong> (Colac).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE GEELONG Netball League\u2019s best-and-fairest is a sharpshooting Swan in 2022 with South Barwon shooter Ellen Doyle taking out the A Grade medal at tonight\u2019s GFNL Awards Night.
