{"id":59602,"date":"2022-10-03T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2022-10-02T17:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=59602"},"modified":"2022-09-30T10:02:49","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T00:02:49","slug":"schueller-supercats-part-ways-ahead-of-2023-nbl1-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/schueller-supercats-part-ways-ahead-of-2023-nbl1-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Schueller, Supercats part ways ahead of 2023 NBL1 season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Supercats will be on the lookout for a new NBL1 men&#8217;s head coach this off-season following the departure of outgoing coach Justin Schueller.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes just days before Schueller starts his fifth season as Melbourne United assistant coach and a month after his Supercats side were eliminated by Frankston Blues in the NBL1 South Elimination Finals.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong United general manager of operations Lukas Bentley said Schueller had already stepped away from the role, allowing the process of finding a new coach to take place immediately.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Effective immediately he won&#8217;t be coaching in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has some exciting opportunities both in Australia and overseas, which he will pursue in 2023 so won&#8217;t be able to coach our team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_59678\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59678\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-59678 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/10\/0M0A4428_22685_tn-600x380.jpg?_t=1664496136\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-59678\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Schueller joined the club in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Schueller had missed a handful of games during the 2022 NBL1 South season due to the 2021-22 NBL Finals and the Under-17 FIBA Basketball World Cup in his role as head coach of the junior national side, but managed to lead the Supercats to the postseason despite his absences.<\/p>\n<p>The Supercats concluded its 2022 season with a record of 12 wins and 10 losses, securing eighth position by a single game to qualify for the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>Following early and mid-season departures from George Blagojevic (knee injury) and Jack White (acquired by Denver Nuggets), Geelong&#8217;s season was unceremoniously cut short in the first round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by the Geelong Supercats&#8217; parent body Geelong United Basketball, the association expressed gratitude for the role Schueller played during a severely disrupted two-and-a-half-year period.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Geelong United Basketball would like to thank departing coach Justin Schueller as his tenure with the NBL1 Men comes to a close.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Joining the club in 2020, Justin has been an integral part of the team as we battled through shortened seasons, cancelled games and injuries and illnesses to the squad.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wish Justin the best of luck into 2023 and beyond.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!-- PictureMarker[0M0A4428_99705.jpg]--><!-- PictureMarker[2H3A9869_63748.jpg]--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Supercats will be on the lookout for a new NBL1 men&#8217;s head coach this off-season following the departure of outgoing coach Justin Schueller.
