{"id":60124,"date":"2022-10-20T04:00:28","date_gmt":"2022-10-19T17:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=60124"},"modified":"2022-10-20T09:37:19","modified_gmt":"2022-10-19T22:37:19","slug":"new-facilities-at-newcomb-secondary-college-opened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/new-facilities-at-newcomb-secondary-college-opened\/","title":{"rendered":"New facilities at Newcomb Secondary College opened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STUDENTS at Newcomb Secondary College are now enjoying new music spaces, systems technology rooms and a STEM activity room built through a $6 million upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins visited the school on Wednesday last week to officially open the works, funded by the state government.<\/p>\n<p>The new music spaces include practice rooms and instrumental teaching rooms with state-of-the art acoustic treatment, while the new STEM activity room includes a presentation space with a retractable screen and seating for more than 140 people.<\/p>\n<p>The new systems technology rooms feature innovation and design spaces, which will be used to introduce students to the concepts of low and high-tech systems through practical work like repairing bicycles and woodwork.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60131\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60131\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60131 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/10\/NSC2_62425-2-600x380.jpg?_t=1665537762\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60131\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Education Minister Natalie Hutchins meets students on a tour of the college.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Newcomb Secondary College also received $200,000 for a new sensory garden to support students with disabilities and additional needs as part of the Inclusive Schools Fund, launched in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Labor says that in the past eight years, it has invested $12.8 billion in building new schools and more than 1,850 school upgrades, creating about17,400 jobs in construction and associated industries, and it is now ahead of schedule in opening 100 new schools by 2026, with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s exciting to officially open these new facilities at Newcomb Secondary College \u2013 which will provide students with the top-class music and learning spaces they deserve,&#8221; Ms Hutchins said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re building the education state \u2013 ensuring all students have the facilities and best spaces to learn in and every child is given every chance to succeed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong MP Christine Couzens said the works would be a huge benefit to Newcomb Secondary College, providing students and staff with the first-class facilities they deserve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>STUDENTS at Newcomb Secondary College are now enjoying new music spaces, systems technology rooms and a STEM activity room built through a $6 million upgrade.
