{"id":61417,"date":"2022-11-17T04:00:10","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T17:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=61417"},"modified":"2022-11-10T10:12:24","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T23:12:24","slug":"works-proposed-to-improve-hamlyn-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/works-proposed-to-improve-hamlyn-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Works proposed to improve Hamlyn Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW masterplan for Hamlyn Park Recreation Reserve proposes responding to increased participation demands, rising female participation, and increased demand for passive open space.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong has endorsed the draft master plan for the reserve in Hamlyn Heights at their October 25 meeting and released it for six weeks of public feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Several priorities are identified, including development of compliant, fit-for-purpose change rooms to support netball participation, and upgrade of other existing sporting facilities, including the Geelong Ballroom Dance Club building.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong mayor Peter Murrihy said it was important to gather feedback from the community about what they wanted the Hamlyn Park Recreation Reserve Master Plan to include.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a Council we want to continue providing more quality spaces that support active lifestyles.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This includes supporting the growth of localised and regional sporting facilities, delivering accessible and attractive community infrastructure, and providing fit for purpose sport and recreation facilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The draft Master Plan aims to improve pedestrian safety, linkages throughout the reserve and open space to provide greater passive recreation opportunities within the Hamlyn Park Recreation Reserve precinct.<\/p>\n<p>The plan also supports initiatives from Western Heights College to develop sporting facilities that will provide greater participation opportunities for the community.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Ron Nelson said the draft Master Plan was designed to achieve the best health outcomes for as many members of the community as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is important that Council creates a more inclusive and diverse community by improving access to facilities and programs for people,&#8221; Cr Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This plan also contributes to a healthier natural environment and looks to help improve the health and safety of our community by promoting an active lifestyle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Project Reference Group of key stakeholders and user groups was established to provide input into the development of the draft master plan, which will be open for public consultation until December 9.<\/p>\n<p>There will be drop-in sessions to discuss the draft master plan in person with city staff at Hamlyn Park&#8217;s Alex Rizun Pavilion on Tuesday, November 15 from 4-6pm and Saturday, November 19 from 10am-noon.<\/p>\n<p>To read the draft master plan and provide feedback, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au\/HPMP\">yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au\/HPMP<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW masterplan for Hamlyn Park Recreation Reserve proposes responding to increased participation demands, rising female participation, and increased demand for passive open space.
