A stunning aerial photograph of Corio Bay by Highton’s Lasith Merinpanayagam will feature on the cover of the City of Greater Geelong’s 2023 Geelong Calendar.<\/p>\n

The cover shot by the Highton resident was voted most popular by the community, amassing 5433 votes in an online City of Greater Geelong poll.<\/p>\n

Cr Peter Murrihy said council’s annual photography competition attracted 1,010 entries from both amateur and professional photographers of all ages.<\/p>\n

“This popular calendar showcases everything we love so much about our region.<\/p>\n

“It’s great to see destinations like our famed Geelong Botanic Gardens, the Waterfront and rural and urban areas highlighted.<\/p>\n

“Congratulations to Lasith Perinpanayagam and the other 12 talented photographers whose images were selected for the calendar from a pool of 26 finalists.”<\/p>\n

Lasith Perinpanayagam said that Corio Bay was one of the most iconic locations in Geelong and shared his excitement for winning the cover shot.<\/p>\n

“I spent around an hour trying to take the perfect shot of the bay on my drone and chose this one out of 35-40 photos,” Mr Perinpanayagam said.<\/p>\n

“I moved here from Sri Lanka three years ago and I love everything about Geelong: the people, the beaches and the lifestyle.<\/p>\n

“Photography has been a passion of mine since 2013 and making the cover of the 2023 Geelong Calendar is my biggest achievement.”<\/p>\n

Community members should keep an eye out on their letterboxes over the next two weeks, as Australia Post begun distributing<\/p>\n

the more than 135,000 calendars on Monday, October 31.<\/p>\n

Locations like aged care facilities, the Anakie General Store and the Indented Head Post Office will also receive their copies within this period.<\/p>\n

The 2023 Geelong Calendar is being delivered earlier this year to avoid the Christmas peak post period, thanks to feedback from community consultation earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Additional copies of the calendar will be available to pick up at the City’s customer service centres and local libraries in late November.<\/p>\n
