GREATER Geelong residents have a rare opportunity to participate in a unique large-scale public dance work being staged at the Geelong Arts Centre by award-winning choreographer and creator Liesel Zink.<\/p>\n
In bringing her eighth instalment of Us And All Of This to the city, Ms Zink is including 100 people from the region in the work who have a passion for movement and are of varying age, ethnicity, gender and body type.<\/p>\n
Willing movers have the chance of being involved in the project that’s described as being a meditative and sculptural public dance work, that is accompanied by renowned sound artist and composer Lawrence English who creates a soundscape for the performance that allows the movers to explore togetherness and community.<\/p>\n
Prior dance experience is not considered essential as the work is designed to be accessible to beginners and those selected will be take part in a series of five gentle but rejuvenating rehearsals that will be led by Ms Zink and four local artists, who teach people a range of choreographic and improvisational sequences that lead into a final performance.<\/p>\n
The show signals the return after a three-year COVID induced hiatus for the Betty Amsden Participation Program, an annual community event starting in 2014 that inspires people from across the state to be involved in a shared creative experience and explore their innate creativity.<\/p>\n
Performances will take place in Melbourne, Geelong and Narre Warren over March and April 2023 and people who are not directly involved in the show are encouraged to attend one of the three locations to witness the 100 participants weave throughout the space.<\/p>\n
The minimum participation age is 15 however there are no access restrictions for the events and people can engage however is right for them.<\/p>\n
The Geelong Arts Centre is holding an in person information session on Wednesday, November 23 between 5.30pm and 7.00pm.<\/p>\n
