{"id":62231,"date":"2022-11-28T04:00:57","date_gmt":"2022-11-27T17:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=62231"},"modified":"2022-11-24T17:01:40","modified_gmt":"2022-11-24T06:01:40","slug":"several-meets-cancelled-at-avalon-raceway-due-to-rain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/several-meets-cancelled-at-avalon-raceway-due-to-rain\/","title":{"rendered":"Several meets cancelled at Avalon Raceway due to rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AVALON Raceway organisers have cancelled several major drawcard events at the venue due to flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday&#8217;s combined Sprintcar Jackpot Race was officially called off earlier in the week as heavy rains caused much of the tracks interior and surrounds to go under water.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-62238 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-24T165825.481.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-24T165825.481.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-24T165825.481-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Organisers issued a statement saying all presold tickets would be refunded and that it was a disappointing decision, given the Eureka Series round of the event had attracted a 54-car entry list that included several Australian champions.<\/p>\n<p>It was not the first time the event had been interrupted, with organisers having already announced several date changes, firstly in October due to ongoing works on the track&#8217;s safety catch fence and new cabling, and then due to ongoing wet weather.<\/p>\n<p>Having settled on a November 12 date for the Eureka event, a decision was made to postpone until last Friday after the raceway&#8217;s director Jeff Drew expressed concern that &#8220;car transporters will get stuck&#8221; if they entered the sodden grounds of the venue.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-62239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-24T165844.062.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-24T165844.062.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-24T165844.062-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>The next meeting at the venue is scheduled for December 3 and is set to include Speedcars, Street Stocks and the AMCA Nationals, the class name for purpose-built modified race cars based on American Dirt Modifieds.<\/p>\n<p>Further meets are planned for late December, however organisers have urged people to monitor the track&#8217;s social media and online sites to ensure they will go ahead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AVALON Raceway organisers have cancelled several major drawcard events at the venue due to flooding.
