{"id":62568,"date":"2022-12-10T04:00:56","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T17:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=62568"},"modified":"2022-12-08T09:16:37","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T22:16:37","slug":"geelong-attractions-hailed-at-victorian-tourism-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-attractions-hailed-at-victorian-tourism-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong attractions hailed at Victorian Tourism Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEVERAL tourism attractions and services from Geelong region are among the winners and finalists in this year&#8217;s Victorian Tourism Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted annually by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), the awards honour business excellence and performance within the industry.<\/p>\n<p>This year, 111 submissions were made, all vying for an award across 31 various categories.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Gallery took home a Gold award in the Cultural Tourism category, and deputy director Penny Whitehead said the gallery&#8217;s second win at the annual awards was &#8220;an outstanding achievement for the entire team&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are proud to represent a cultural institution that contributes to the life and well-being of our City and surrounding regions through our delivery of exhibitions, public and education programs. &#8220;The award signifies the important contribution Geelong Gallery makes to tourism through the presentation of major exhibitions that drive visitation and high spend in the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Particularly following a period of economic downturn with COVID-19, our hard-working staff have worked tirelessly to ensure we deliver exhibitions that result in a positive outcome for our community, local businesses and the extended tourism sector.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we head to the National Tourism Awards in March &#8211; fingers crossed!&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62576\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62576\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62576 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/TA_GeelongGallery_46_46732_tn-600x380.jpg?_t=1670384804\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62576\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Geelong Gallery won Gold in the Cultural Tourism category. Photo: CAMERON MURRAY PHOTOGRAPHY\/TOURISM AUSTRALIA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tourism Greater Geelong &amp; the Bellarine picked up two awards: Gold for Tourism Education and Training and Bronze for Tourism Marketing and Campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d like to extend a huge congratulations to all of the winners and finalists, thank you for doing what you do and representing our region on the Victorian stage,&#8221; Tourism Greater Geelong and Bellarine acting executive director Tracy Carter said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know our tourism industry is a pretty special bunch, and the results at the 2022 Victorian Tourism Awards is just further proof of how incredible our region is.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s also quite humbling to be recognised for the work we do with the industry and in bringing visitors to the region \u2013 we love what we do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in Geelong, awards went to Splatters Cheese Bar in Geelong West, a finalist in the New Tourism Business category; and the Foo Fighters concert presented by Always Live and Frontier Touring at Kardinia Park won silver in the Major Festivals and Events category.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62574\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62574 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/FOOFIGHTERS_rcstill_67719-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1670384704\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Foo Fighters&#8217; gig at GMHBA Stadium won Silver in the Major Festivals and Events category.
