Markets.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people came to the free community event, which formed part of the Barwon Health Foundation&#8217;s Wish Upon A Star Christmas Appeal and raised $24,952 to help local sick children get the care they need, close to home.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62808\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62808\" style=\"width: 364px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62808 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/MikMaks_65733-1-e1670981148605-364x380.jpg?_t=1670981149\" alt=\"\" width=\"364\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62808\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Mik Maks hosted the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Crowds took advantage of the many free things to do and see before the performances began in the evening, taking part in activities by Kelly Sports, face painting, caricatures, and selfies with the 2022 AFL Premiership cup.<\/p>\n<p>Roving stilt walkers, jugglers and food trucks added to the carnival feel, and a Santa Selfie Station allowed kids to have a special moment with the man of the month.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62810\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62810\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62810 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/Facepaintingwasp_74440-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1670981049\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62810\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Face painting was a popular activity at the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shoppers browsed 28 local market stalls offering a range of products to help locals tick off their Christmas purchases by supporting small businesses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62809\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62809\" style=\"width: 285px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62809 size-thumbnail\" act of the night and hosts, The Mik Maks, had children up and dancing with delight when the show began and their enthusiasm for local talent continued through performances by popular local singing teachers Kim Cooper and Imogen Brough.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional Gala acts Karen Feldman&#8217;s Dance Studio, With One Voice Choir, Pitch Perfect Singing School, Geelong Concert Band and Geelong Highland Pipe Band wowed audiences with performances showcasing skills they had been practising throughout the year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62806\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62806\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62806 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/SantaandMrsClaus_55106-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1670981035\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62806\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Santa Claus and Mrs Claus made a brief visit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Kings of Christmas, Rob Mills and Bobby Fox, gave an entertaining preview of their coming show of the same name at Costa Hall, and singing sensation Stellar Perry closed the night with an upbeat rendition of &#8220;Joy To The World&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Barwon Health Foundation executive director Zoe Waters said the event was an opportunity for the foundation to thank the community for its support over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Gala Christmas celebrations have always been about celebrating Geelong&#8217;s generous spirit and it was wonderful to see the community back together after two years of virtual concerts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was particularly enjoyable seeing the smiling faces of thousands of children and families as they enjoyed the festive activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fundraising continues until the end of the month and we look forward to announcing the total amount raised for the Wish Upon a Star Christmas Appeal on December
