at Edge Geelong, speaking to a strong crowd about the mental health issues facing young people and the importance of the Read the Play program in delivering innovative programs that empower young people to take control of their mental health and well-being.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62846\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62846\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62846 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/057A2084_70827-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1670990162\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62846\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Read the Play was founded in 2006 and has assisted 32,000 young people through their programs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Founded in Geelong in 2006, Read the Play is a mental health literacy program that has been utilised by over 32,000 sporting youth to help them learn about mental illness through fun and interactive games that remove the stigma and increase help seeking behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Carr-Gregg spoke about how vital the Read the Play service is for the Greater Geelong region and hoped that it would continue to be used by as many young people as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62845\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62845\" style=\"width: 363px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62845 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/057A1934_70811-1-e1670990297205-363x380.jpg?_t=1670990298\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62845\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carr-Gregg spoke about Read the Play&#8217;s ability to bring mental illness into the limelight in an engaging way.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In adolescence, the idea is that the family focus shifts to your mates, that&#8217;s one of the most important components of Read the Play, psychologically encouraging people to hang out together,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All the research is telling us is the greatest predicter of wellbeing in a 10-year-old is not being good looking, it&#8217;s not having lots of money, the greatest predictor of wellbeing is the ability of that kid to obtain, maintain and retain positive peer relationships.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Read the Play Chair Sarah Albon was appreciative of Dr Carr-Gregg&#8217;s involvement and cited that the program was meeting the needs of young people in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s so nice to hear that Read the Play is considered a vital program for young people in the opinion of someone like Dr Michael Carr-Gregg,&#8221;
