{"id":62872,"date":"2022-12-20T04:00:18","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T17:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=62872"},"modified":"2022-12-14T16:07:15","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T05:07:15","slug":"activities-galore-city-expands-christmas-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/activities-galore-city-expands-christmas-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities Galore: City expands Christmas program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MEMORABLE Christmas is ahead for Geelong&#8217;s youngest residents thanks to an expanded Christmas in Geelong program.<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan said council has expanded the number of activities for children this year to make Christmas extra special and best of all, most activities are free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s well worth checking out council&#8217;s unique Christmas in Geelong program of events and activities that will help our youngest residents feel the magic of Christmas,&#8221; Mayor Sullivan said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want kids to have a lot of fun and be engaged during the most exciting time of the year, and make entertaining the family a bit easier for local parents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62877\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62877\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62877 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/Santas-Craft-Workshop-6yo-Winnie-with-Cr-Peter-Murrihy-600x380.jpg?_t=1670994345\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62877\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cr Murrihy and six-year-old Winnie enjoying Santa&#8217;s Craft Workshop.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To keep children entertained this festive season, the city has added a new range of craft activities where children can create Santa searcher binoculars, snowman plate faces, yarn wrapped reindeer heads and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Children and their families will also get the chance to attend Christmas Nights at The Carousel where they can ride on The Carousel, enjoy ice cream and get their faces painted.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Peter Murrihy said Council was offering a range of virtual activities this year, in addition to the in-person initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have online shows and tutorials to keep the kids busy if a day at home is in order, such as the Mik Maks Christmas Show, Nature Play tutorials and Granny Lee Music and Storytelling,&#8221; Cr Murrihy said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are festive activities and events for all ages in the Christmas in Geelong program, such as Santa Pet Photos, Christmas Masterclasses and Christmas Day Morning Yoga.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The City have also encouraged children and their families to check out the Giant Selfie Trail, Johnstone Park, Little Malop Central and the iconic Floating Christmas Tree on their festive ventures this December.<\/p>\n<p>To make sure Santa sees all their wishes, children can post their letters to Santa in special mailboxes at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, Waurn Ponds Library, Leopold Library, Corio Library, The Carousel and Wurriki Nyal (the City&#8217;s new civic precinct at 137-149 Mercer Street, Geelong).<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the Christmas in Geelong program visit www.geelongaustralia.com.au\/christmas<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A MEMORABLE Christmas is ahead for Geelong&#8217;s youngest residents thanks to an expanded Christmas in Geelong program.
