{"id":62894,"date":"2022-12-21T04:00:06","date_gmt":"2022-12-20T17:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=62894"},"modified":"2022-12-15T08:22:14","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T21:22:14","slug":"new-look-christmas-appeal-highlights-onecares-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/new-look-christmas-appeal-highlights-onecares-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"New-look Christmas appeal highlights OneCare&#8217;s impact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of residents will be better off this Christmas thanks to a new appeal garnered by OneCare Geelong and a passionate group of volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>OneCare Geelong has launched its new Christmas Giving Appeal, allowing people an opportunity to give a gift to those in the community doing it tough on December 25.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, more than 100 boxes are being distributed to those accessing OneCare essential services, as well as people in the community who are homeless or sleeping rough.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/IMG_8752_77624.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"434\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">OneCare Geelong CEO Danielle Leal.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;For many people, Christmas can be an incredibly difficult time,&#8221; OneCare Geelong chief executive officer Danielle Leal said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are people in our community who are experiencing social isolation, loneliness, and financial hardship, even more so this Christmas due to COVID-19 and the rising costs of living.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 563px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/IMG_8759_55089.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"563\" height=\"376\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grovedale resident Kimberley Thomas wrapping gift boxes at OneCare Geelong in Geelong West.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;The impacts for those already experiencing hardships have been devastating. At OneCare, we want to make a difference where we can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The appeal invites people to get involved in a number of ways, by financial donation, filling a gift box, and volunteering, which was conducted on Wednesday this week.<\/p>\n<p>Funds raised via direct donation will increase food security via OneCare&#8217;s essential foodbank in the lead up to Christmas and a special Christmas Lunch for residents to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Funds will also go towards OneCare Geelong&#8217;s important Community Meals program.<\/p>\n<p>Each Christmas gift box is filled with special Christmas items, such as ham, Christmas treats, a thoughtful card and a voucher for an outing or experience.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/IMG_8771_52409.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"649\" height=\"433\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By generous donations, we will be able to provide 120 gifts boxes to OneCare participants, filled with special Christmas items, like a ham, Christmas treats, a thoughtful card and a voucher for an outing or experience,&#8221; Ms Leal said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Giving a gift of an &#8216;outing&#8217; is an incredibly special thing to do for someone who would not normally be able to access those experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many of us will go for a day outing without even thinking twice about it.
