GEELONG radio personality Roxanne Bennett is hanging up the microphone after more than 30 years in the business.<\/p>\n
Bennett has had several on-air roles with bay 93.9 ( previously known as Bay FM) and its sister station K rock.<\/p>\n
“It’s hard to believe that I’ve been on air in Geelong in some capacity for more than three decades!” Bennett said today (Friday, December 16).<\/p>\n
“It feels like yesterday I started working at what was then, Bay FM at the old Corio Whiskey Distillery where it all started.<\/p>\n
“I’ll absolutely miss being on-air and hanging out with Daryl and the radio crew every day. I’ll just have to keep the radio tuned in to get my Bay fix!”<\/p>\n
Bennett\u2019s last show with her partner in radio Daryl Reader will be on December 23.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoxie is larger than life on-air and in person,” Bay 93.9 content director Mark Hyland said.<\/p>\n
We\u2019ll miss her energy and passion in the station and I\u2019m sure the listeners will miss her infectious personality… and ‘that laugh’ on-air.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some years ago, Bennett bravely shared her breast cancer diagnosis, which led to her being inundated with messages of support from listeners thanking her for so openly and honestly talking about her cancer journey and encouraging others to self-examine.<\/p>\n
“My beautiful mother in-law Joy was one of those listeners who heard Roxie’s story and has thanked Roxie for prompting a checkup, finding a lump and ultimately helping save her life,” Geelong Broadcasters general manager Andy Mathers said.<\/p>\n
Bennett’s impact on Geelong can be measured not only on-air but also on the many boards she has sat on, charities she has supported and businesses she has worked with, which has led her to the next chapter of her life in the corporate world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
