THE City of Greater Geelong has officially begun works on Aphrasia Street in Newtown to prevent localised flooding and improve the roads, footpaths and drainage for the local community.<\/p>\n
Acting Director of City Services, Shaun Broadbent said the works would help to reduce regular maintenance on the site, while improving streetscape and risk of flooding.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe acknowledge this is a significant project and there will be impacts on local residents, businesses and schools, \u201d Mr Broadbent said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur investment in Aphrasia Street over the coming months will deliver long-term benefits to the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe works will include the installation of new storm water drainage, the renewal of footpaths, blue stone kerbing and road pavement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWorks will be completed in stages so that resident can still have vehicle access to the front of their properties whilst the other stages are being completed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Until it\u2019s expected completion date in May 2023, Aphrasia Street will be closed to all traffic between Talbot Street and Pakington Street.<\/p>\n
Traffic management will be in place from 7am to 4pm to assist residents with moving around the works.<\/p>\n
Pedestrian access will be maintained to and from properties, while waste collection will be collected as per usual along the Newtown strip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
