{"id":63856,"date":"2023-01-17T04:00:02","date_gmt":"2023-01-16T17:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=63856"},"modified":"2023-01-12T10:58:17","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T23:58:17","slug":"festival-of-sails-serves-up-beach-volleyball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/festival-of-sails-serves-up-beach-volleyball\/","title":{"rendered":"Festival of Sails serves up beach volleyball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE high jumps and dramatic dives of competition beach volleyball will be back as part of this year&#8217;s Festival of Sails, to be held on January 26-28.<\/p>\n<p>Showcasing some of Victoria\u2019s sharpest beach volleyball talent at Eastern Beach in Geelong, the competition is making a return to the festival after an almost 10-year hiatus.<\/p>\n<p>Organiser Greg Jury said he expected a strong turnout over the three days of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeach volleyball is incredibly popular around Geelong with more than 300 local teams regularly competing against each other and this activation on Eastern Beach will be a real showcase of their talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast month, we had the very successful Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest at Torquay which attracted world-class international competitors and we\u2019re hugely excited that Geelong has been chosen to host the aquatic events \u2013 including beach volleyball &#8211; for the next Commonwealth Games in March 2026. So, it\u2019s a very exciting time for our sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89419\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89419\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-89419 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/P1020882_82412-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1673412198\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89419\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kicking off the beach competition on January 26 will be a &#8220;dress-up&#8221; four-a-side round.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the beach competition on January 26 will be a &#8220;dress-up&#8221; four-a-side round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be a bit of a fun, with prizes for best dressed and a great opportunity to get some mates together for a hit,\u201d Mr Jury said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen on the Friday, we\u2019ll move into a more serious competition mode with the Under-18 State teams fighting it out for the top honours and then on Saturday, the battle will be on between some of our elite players for the title of King and Queen of the beach.
