GEELONG’S newest rugby league club is on the hunt for boys and girls players aged between five and 18 years in the hopes of expanding its junior program ahead of the 2023 season.<\/p>\n
The Geelong Sharks held its inaugural Come and Try Day in October last year with a successful turnout.<\/p>\n
Now, the fledgling club is inviting prospective juniors into its junior ranks with another Come and Try Day scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, January 21) at Ervin Reserve in Newcomb.<\/p>\n
“We’re offering our community a chance to participate in activities\/drills within rugby league,” senior head coach Damien Tangata said.<\/p>\n
“Holding this type of event helps us engage with our wider Geelong community and it gives me satisfaction knowing we can offer a service like this for our community free of charge.<\/p>\n
“By doing this we get a fair idea of the age groups interested in the sport which helps us navigate how many teams we can put forward for the coming season.<\/p>\n
Club officials will also be taking registrations for new players ahead of its inaugural campaign. Those attending will also be provided a free barbecue and drinks.<\/p>\n
“If you’re looking for a sport that’s all about respect, equality, and inclusiveness then that’s what our club offers,” Tangata said.<\/p>\n
“The come and try day also teaches you fundamental skills that not only apply to rugby league but also to other sporting codes as well.<\/p>\n
“People of all ages can come down and have some fun kicking a ball around while getting to meet new people.”<\/p>\n
