{"id":64335,"date":"2023-01-29T04:16:52","date_gmt":"2023-01-28T17:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=64335"},"modified":"2023-01-26T10:18:27","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T23:18:27","slug":"artists-to-create-lasting-legacy-at-south-geelong-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/artists-to-create-lasting-legacy-at-south-geelong-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Artists to create lasting legacy at South Geelong Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LOCAL artists will have the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy on the South Geelong Station with their designs to be featured on a public artwork overpass.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the South Geelong station rebuild, the City of Greater Geelong has opened expressions of interest to artists keen to explore a sense of community, while referencing places such as the nearby sporting precinct of Kardinia Park.<\/p>\n<p>The artwork is set to serve as a high-profile visual marker for the community and will play an important role in creating a sense of identity at the railway station.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Jacinta Allan and Geelong MP Christine Couzens have thrown their support behind the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want the design to play an important role in creating a sense of identity at the upgraded station and reflect what the Geelong local community is all about,&#8221; Ms Allan said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented local artist to leave a lasting legacy on their hometown at this upgraded station,&#8221; Ms Couzens said.<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity to integrate public artwork into the key elements of the project will be explored in collaboration with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>Expressions of interest are open to any established artists or those with a strong connection to the Greater Geelong region.
