{"id":64362,"date":"2023-01-27T04:33:12","date_gmt":"2023-01-26T17:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=64362"},"modified":"2023-01-26T13:55:12","modified_gmt":"2023-01-26T02:55:12","slug":"gabf-cheers-ten-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/gabf-cheers-ten-years\/","title":{"rendered":"GABF cheers ten years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 6,000 people turned out over a two-day period to taste some of Australia&#8217;s best brews at the Great Australian Beer Festival (GABF) in Geelong&#8217;s Johnstone Park.<\/p>\n<p>Held on Friday, January 20, and Saturday, January 21, the event expanded from its usual one-day event to a two-day extravaganza, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the popular beer festival with plenty of entertainment, food, and the region&#8217;s best beers, wines and ciders.<\/p>\n<p>GABF director Kieran Blood said the event went down as one of the best festival&#8217;s yet, with food masterclasses, live music, children&#8217;s activities and a range of brews on offer for everyone to enjoy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90784\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90784\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-90784 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/GeelongBeerFestMedia_94603-8-600x380.jpg?_t=1674696964\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90784\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A host of comedians and other entertainers rocked the GABF stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was very successful, all the new elements including the comedy, the cooking masterclasses and the Australian Open screen worked really well with a beer in hand,&#8221; Mr Blood said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had a fantastic crowd for both days, a real mix of ages and generations of people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cooking demonstrations from Masterchef contestant Tim Bone and Little Creatures Stephen Shing were fantastic and people were stoked to sit down and enjoy it in the theatre setting.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90767\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90767\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-90767\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/GeelongBeerFestMedia_94602-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90767\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The festival was regarded as the best one yet.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We probably had a much wider amount of local vendors as well this year including Austin Wines, Flowstate in Torquay and FarmDog as well as a relatively new brewer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t really go anywhere else in Australia and have 13 or 14 local Geelong breweries all brewing in the one place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Blood said live music was another highlight, with four of Geelong&#8217;s Best Buskers, including competition winner Gabby Steel, and Australian artists Ash Grunwald, Telenova, Tyne-Jones Organ and Joelyn Petch rocking out the stage.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90773\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90773\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-90773\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/GeelongBeerFestMedia_94611-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90773\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The beer was cold and on tap for Friday and Saturday&#8217;s event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was definitely more successful being a two-day event, we were really happy with it,&#8221; Mr Blood said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We really tried to get our traders involved too by giving them free tickets so they could come down and have some different beers from around the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was really well received by them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The GABF said they look forward to hosting the event once again in 2024 and are incredibly thankful for the community support and vendors who traded and enjoyed the event.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90769\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90769\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-90769\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/GeelongBeerFestMedia_94639-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90769\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was attended by more than 6,000 people.
