{"id":65103,"date":"2023-02-06T04:00:58","date_gmt":"2023-02-05T17:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=65103"},"modified":"2023-02-02T17:03:06","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T06:03:06","slug":"early-planning-starts-for-second-stage-of-barwon-heads-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/early-planning-starts-for-second-stage-of-barwon-heads-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Early planning starts for second stage of Barwon Heads Road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MAJOR Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is offering community and businesses the opportunity to have their say about the second stage of the Barwon Heads road upgrades as it prepares a business case for proposed works between Reserve Road in Charlemont and Lower Duneed Road in Armstrong Creek.<\/p>\n<p>MRPV has a community survey, a business survey and a map survey open for submissions until February 12, asking people how they currently use the road, their views on safety, traffic flow and any other concerns to be considered during planning.<\/p>\n<p>The responses will be used to shape development of design options for the potential upgrades that include adding more lanes, upgrading key intersections and building cycling and walking paths.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is important for us to hear from the people who travel on Barwon Heads Road everyday \u2013 we want to know how you currently use the road, any concerns you may have and what we should consider in our planning to help ensure the potential upgrade delivers the best outcome for the community,&#8221; MRPV&#8217;s project development director Michael McClean said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65108\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65108\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-65108\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/In-Article-2023-02-02T170057.554.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/In-Article-2023-02-02T170057.554.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/In-Article-2023-02-02T170057.554-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Barwon Heads Road bridge over the Geelong rail line was opened to traffic in late 2022.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Feedback can also be provided directly to the project team who will be at The Village Warralily Shopping Centre on February 7, between 10am and 12pm and again from 2pm and 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>The Stage 2 works would be a continuation of the ongoing duplication of 4km of the Barwon Heads Road between Settlement Road in Belmont and Reserve Road that&#8217;s scheduled for completion later this year.<\/p>\n<p>An MRPV spokesperson said the second bridge over the Waurn Ponds Creek in Belmont is nearing completion and at two metres higher than the existing bridge is designed to increase protection from future flood events.
