NOMINATIONS are open for the City of Greater Geelong’s 2023 Youth Awards and the city is encouraging people to put forward the names of young people who deserve recognition for their contribution to the community.<\/p>\n
The series of awards are designed to acknowledge the standout roles made by young people aged between 12 and 25 years in nine category areas including unsung heroes, leadership, cultural awareness, volunteering, arts and music.<\/p>\n
Youth Council members helped select the award categories and will further determine the successful nominees.<\/p>\n
“Youth contributions come in a variety of forms and as a council we’re proud of the inspiring work that our region’s young people are doing,” Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
“Recognition of this nature will also provide encouragement for others to get onboard and ensure the Geelong community continues to be a great one to be a part of.”<\/p>\n
Deputy mayor Anthony Aitken was similarly effusive about the importance of the awards and encouraged residents to consider who of the young people in their community they may put forward for nomination.<\/p>\n
“It’s inspiring when we see young people around us stepping up and making a positive contribution to life in our region,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I would strongly encourage anyone who is aware of a young person making a difference to nominate them and shine a light on their good work.”<\/p>\n
Young people under the age of 16 require a parent or guardian’s permission prior to being nominated.<\/p>\n
