{"id":65485,"date":"2023-02-10T04:18:10","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T17:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=65485"},"modified":"2023-02-09T14:27:33","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T03:27:33","slug":"wreck2reef-organisers-pleased-to-host-first-full-program-in-three-years-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/wreck2reef-organisers-pleased-to-host-first-full-program-in-three-years-2\/","title":{"rendered":"WRECK2REEF organisers pleased to host first full program in three years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WRECK2REEF organisers are confident the event will have a full program of open water swims this summer \u2013 the first time in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The Wreck2Reef, Indented Head Yacht Club&#8217;s biggest annual fundraiser, is on tomorrow (February 11).<\/p>\n<p>The 300-metre junior Dash for Cash returns, while the 800-metre Novice Swim replaces the 500-metre Novice Swim from 2020, and the 1.2km and 2.5km swims will run.<\/p>\n<p>The Wreck2Reef is the final open water swim on the Bellarine this summer after the Ocean Grove SLSC open water swim festival was cancelled on January 26.<\/p>\n<p>Wreck2Reef race director Andrew Dix said it was pleasing a full schedule of swims is back on the agenda for the first time since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year will be the first year we have run the full program since before COVID \u2013 so that&#8217;s something we are looking forward to,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From our perspective it is obviously something people like to do, we will do whatever we can to make sure we put the day on.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_93114\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93114\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-93114\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/1.The300mJuniorDashf_20306.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-93114\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 300m Junior Dash for Cash will return at the Wreck2Reef this summer for the first time since 2020. Photo: MARK HEENAN MEDIA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;The die-hard swimmers all they want to do is get out and swim and they will look for every opportunity and we don&#8217;t want to let them down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dix said swimmers still had time to register for the Wreck2Reef until the day of the event as registrations increased throughout late January and early February.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People can register on the day up and till one hour before their event start time. but (they) must do it online, no paper registrations will be accepted,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Registrations received from midnight tonight (February 10) will cost an extra $10 per event.Competitor numbers will be capped at 300, and registrations will close once this number is reached.<\/p>\n<p>To register for this summer&#8217;s Wreck2Reef log onto <a href=\"http:\/\/ihyc.com.au\/wreck-2-reef-event\">ihyc.com.au\/wreck-2-reef-event<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p>The Wreck2Reef official wave start times include the 2.5km event for a 9:30am start, the 300 metre Junior Dash for Cash starts at 10:30am, the 1.2km swim category opens from 10:30am while the open 800 metre Novice swim commences at 12:10pm.<\/p>\n<p>The Wreck2Reef is also part of the Great Victorian Swim Series (GVSS) calendar.
