{"id":65678,"date":"2023-02-21T04:00:41","date_gmt":"2023-02-20T17:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=65678"},"modified":"2023-02-16T10:17:33","modified_gmt":"2023-02-15T23:17:33","slug":"elifest-raises-3600-for-geelong-resident-in-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/elifest-raises-3600-for-geelong-resident-in-need\/","title":{"rendered":"Elifest raises $3,600 for Geelong resident in need"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FUNDRAISER for an eight-year-old Geelong boy with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome has raised more than $3,600, giving his family some financial reprieve during what has been a remarkably difficult time.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 people attended &#8216;Elifest&#8217; at the Barwon Club Hotel on Saturday afternoon, an event that supported Elijah Presilski, a young boy who has a rare condition that affects the connective tissues of the body, making his joints prone to dislocation.<\/p>\n<p>More than 15 bands and DJs volunteered their time at the event, while an array of local businesses got behind a raffle that was said to be one of the highlights of the day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65688\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65688\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65688 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/SmallLizardBigBrain__90070-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1676502882\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65688\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Small Lizard Big Brain also played at the event. Photo: PATRICK CALLOW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Elifest organiser and family friend Monique Chester said the show of support from the community was fantastic and would certainly go a long way in assisting Elijah and Lisa with paying for medical expenses and healthcare visits.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The event was just brilliant; it was a fantastic day and everything went very swimmingly from an entertainment point of view.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was plenty going on with all the music and then we also had a colouring corner for the kids which was a big hit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Elijah came down for a couple of hours during the day to catch the action too which was absolutely amazing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65690\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65690\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65690 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/LG__20230211_00040_The-Grimwoods-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1676502961\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65690\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Grimwoods were one of 15 acts to play at the event. Photo: LUCINDA GOODWIN PHOTOGRAPHY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Elijah&#8217;s mother Lisa Lewis said the family was &#8220;overwhelmed&#8221; with the collective community response to the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was really good, Monique kept it a secret from us for a long time,&#8221; Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a pretty hard slog so we are super appreciative for the support.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Elijah was just smiling from ear to ear the whole time, he didn&#8217;t want to leave.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65689\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65689\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65689 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/JasmineMatthews_EliF_90005-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1676502886\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jasmine Matthews playing at Elifest.
